Abstract

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is an appropriate name to describe the technologies that build 3D objects by adding layer-upon-layer of material. One of the most common processes is Laser Powder Bed Fusion - LPBF. Among various melting technologies emerging as promising for new markets, AM is one of them requiring most for solidification understanding related to the process. The AlSi10Mg alloy is very used due to favorable fluidity, small solidification freezing range and relatively low shrinkage. However, the alloy's properties require some improvement, especially regarding ductility. Other alternative alloys such as those containing Sc (i.e., Scalmalloy: Al-4%Mg-0,6%Sc) may attain twice higher ductility and 50% higher strength as compared to the AlSi10Mg alloy. Incipient investigations with Al-Si based alloys may demonstrate the possibility of improving mechanical properties for Sc-containing alloys. As such, the present proposal may examine microstructure and tensile properties of the Sc-containing AlSi10Mg alloy generated under two conditions, that is, as-rapid solidified and as-aged.
