Abstract

Among the environmental issues recurrent in Brazil, currently, the forest fires are highlighted due to large burning in Amazon, which has increased in the last years, although this question has been concerned to many decades. The practice of burning causes damages to environmental balance, biodiversity, ecosystems, soil erosion, air quality, climate changes, among others, which are primarily caused by agricultural and livestock expansion. Monitoring of burnings and forest fires through satellite images is an efficient way in large countries such as Brazil due to synoptic view and low cost compared with other tools of deforestation detection. In this context, this project aims to identify burning areas in the National Park of Brasília, Federal District, located in Cerrado biome, using multispectral images of Operational Land Instrument (OLI), onboard Landsat-8 satellite. For burning detection, two images taken before and after forest fire will be used. These images will be radiometrically calibrated and atmospherically corrected. To map burning areas, it will be carried out spectral transformations to enhance spectral features associated with vegetation. In addition, images acquired in several years also will be analyzed in order to find spectral characteristics linked to vegetation regeneration in the local, using analysis of time series of images. So, it is expected that results raised may contribute as an allowance for actions of environmental plans in conservation units in Cerrado biome (AU)
