Abstract In this proposal, we plan to study the fundamental interaction between photons and phonons. By the use of modern microfabrication techniques, simulations and theory we expect to achieve optomechanical oscillations and dissipative optomechanical interactions for nonlinear interaction between the light and sound confined to these structures. Such achievement could pave the way to explore coherent coupling exchange between photons and phonons and to study quantum mechanics within mesoscopic devices. Using very low linear and nonlinear losses materials such as silicon nitride, diamond, and others, we expect to achieve high-frequency oscillators and a very low-phonon number even at room temperature.
