Abstract

In the work of Bernardo et al 2019 of Scientific Initiation Fapesp process2018 / 20887- 3 with the final report for 10/01/2020 is being evaluated clinically and radiographically the prevalence of apical periodontitis and treatment endodontics in patients who are systemically compromised with diseases such Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension, compared to healthy patients. This project continues the study by prospectively evaluating the endodontic treatments of patients selected in the first study. Thus, the objective of this prospective study is to clinically and radiographically evaluate the success of endodontic treatment in teeth with apical periodontitis and primary endodontic infection of patients with type II diabetes mellitus after12 months of treatment. Forty teeth with apical periodontitis and infection endodontic surgery will be included in the study. Based on the levels ofHbA1c, patients will be divided into 2 groups: type 2 diabetic (HbA1c & gt;6.5%) and non-diabetic (HbA1c & lt; 6.5%). The clinical and radiographic examination will be performed 12 months after treatment. Endodontic treatment of teeth is already being carried out so that there is time to complete the preservations within the term of the Scientific Initiation scholarship. The primary outcome will be changed in apical bone density (IAP score)at 12 months. The secondary outcome will be the presence of clinical symptoms or abnormal findings at 12 months. Immediate postoperative radiographs and will be examined by 2 independent observers and blind, according to the PAI score index. The data will be analyzed. Sigma Plot 12.0 (Systat Software Inc., San Jose, California, USA).The USA) at the 5% significance level.
