Abstract

At the end of the last decade, the formation of monoethyl carbonate was accidentally identified when investigating NaHCO3 aquoethanolic solutions. Our surprise at these observations has been made even greater by the fact that monoalkyl carbonates (MACs), already described at the beginning of the last century, have been largely ignored by researchers from various areas in which conditions favorable for the formation of these hemiesters are found. Therefore, this project aims to study the formation of monoalkyl carbonates from the reaction of alcohols and CO2 using electrochemical methods. The results of the thesis steemed from this project will help to elucidate the electrochemical processes that occur in the formation of MACs. For the electrochemical study of the MACs will be developed electrodes/sensors chemically modified with deposited noble metals (Pt, Pd, Ir and Ru) and their oxides, electrodeposited transition metals (Ni, Co, Cu, Mn) (depositions of metals will be explored), or mixtures of metals) as well as nanoparticles in the form of single and double or triple hydroxides, involving Ni, Cu, Co, Mn and V.
