Abstract

In this project of scientific initiation, we will be experimentally investigating the changes of thermodynamic quantities when collective excitations are introduced into Bose-Einstein Condensate (BECs) samples using the concept of global variables [1]. The experiments should begin with the production of rubidium-87 BECs in existing laboratory traps. After BEC production at finite temperatures, extra trap fields will provide the excitement of collective modes such as dipolar modes and quadrupolar modes. Once the collective modes are excited, the macroscopic properties, such as pressure, should be investigated and observed in relation to the oscillation of collective modes. In addition, we will investigate how a turbulent excited condensed cloud oscillates from the dipolar mode.
