Abstract

Recent studies suggest that individual differences and contextual aspects are essential factors for people to cooperate. Typically, such studies investigate cooperation by ensuring participants' anonymity and privacy, leaving little known about the effect of breaking these characteristics on participant performance. This research associates a neuroimaging technique (fNIRS) with a relevant technique for the study of cooperation, the public goods game, to investigate neural processes in the ventromedial and dorsolateral areas of the pre-cortex underlying the cooperation by modulating contextual variables associated with breach of privacy (experiment 1) and anonymity (experiment2), as well as the association of the two variables (experiment 3). It is expected toelucidate the role of variables present in cooperating in natural situations and there foreraise more general knowledge about the phenomenon, enabling research involving modulation of variables such as gender and skin color attribution, for example.
