Predict model validation in a breast cancer cohort in Brazil

Abstract

Background models to predict survival and treatment response have gained importance in oncology with the emergence of new prognostic factors. Most models have excellent performance in the population in which they are derived, but have limitations for application in different populations. Thus, the aim of our study is to validate the PREDICT model, developed in the United Kingdom, in a breast cancer cohort in Brazil. Patients and Methods All patients diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in the Mastology and Gynecological Oncology Sector of Hospital das Clínicas from 1999 (corresponding to the year in which the PREDICT model was included) until 2011 were included, so that 5 years of follow-up were possible. The following variables were collected: age at diagnosis, tumors size, number of lymph nodes sampled and number of lymph nodes positive, histological grade, estrogen receptor expression, HER-2 marker expression, KI-67 marker expression, type of treatment received, current condition (alive or dead), survival time in days, cause of death. These variables will be stored in a form already created in REDCAP software. The data obtained will be used to generate prediction curves based on the PREDICT model. These curves will be evaluated for discrimination and calibration capability. (AU)
