Abstract

The cerebral autoregulation (CA) mechanism plays a crucial role in brain homeostasis, being responsible for maintaining the cerebral blood flow (CBF) constant despite variations in blood pressure (BP). Using processing techniques capable of extracting information related to the interaction between PA and CBF, it is possible to quantify CA. Over the past 20 years, software has been developed by the University of Leicester (United Kingdom) containing the main techniques for evaluating this intrinsic mechanism. However, processing is performed in the DOS operating system, obsolete and incompatible with current systems. In this context, a new open source clinical platform is being developed in order to increase the reproducibility and comparison of results, aiming at the clinical use of the methods. The platform currently has a series of visualization tools, noise and artefact removal and the Transfer Function Analysis (TFA) technique, already validated in control subjects and in neurological patients. The current project proposes to implement a popular method for calculating CA the Autoregulation Index (ARI). In addition, it is also proposed to validate the results obtained (with data from 10 subjects) through statistical comparison with results with the reference software in DOS. The developed study is part of a multidisciplinary project, of a collaborative nature between centers.
