Abstract

This research project, in the scientific initiation modality, includes itself around discussions regarding the expansion of higher education access and the insertion of lower classes students into the field of public universities. The research goal is to understand the adaptation process of students from distinct social backgrounds into São Carlos Federal University (Universidade Federal de São Carlos), trying to identify how the initial phase of integration into the academic field can be possibly influenced by educational trajectories and capitals. The research is characterized by being both qualitative research and field research. The participants of this study will be students from six distinct graduation courses ministred at UFSCar. Online questionnaire, developed through Google's platform, and documental and bibliographic reviews will be used. The data that was obtained will then be categorized, triangulated and interpreted based on Pierre Bourdieu's and Alain Coulon's theoric contribution and on studies regarding the expansion of higher education. We hope to find results that will contribute to the expansion of the debate on the integration and affiliation of students into higher education.
