Evaluation of Deqi sensation between Acupunture-experienced and Non-acupunture-experienced

Abstract

The aim of this study is evaluating and measuring Deqi response in volunteers with acunputure experience and volunteers without acupunture experience after tradicional needle treatment and Sham Acupuncture (non-penetrating device). This research will enlist 106 volunteers who will be manage in 2 groups: group volunteers with acunputure experience (n=53) and group volunteers without acunputure experience (n=53). The inclusion criteria is volunteers aged abouve 18 years of both sexes. The exclusion criteria is pregnant women, patients under treatment with analgesic and antiinflammatory drugs and people who reported being afraid of needle. All them, from both groups, will receive real needle acunpunture insertion (0.3x30mm special acupuncture needle; Asiamed, Suhl, Germany) at IG4 acupoint and sham needling (non-penetrating device) [0.30x30mm sham acupuncture needle insertion (placebo acupuncture needles, Streitberger needle) manufactured by Asiamed] at IG4 acupoint. Afterwars, the volunteers will fill the Southampton Needle Sensation Questionaire (White et al., 2008) for both treatments. The samples obtained will be performed by a statistic analysis to establish a comparison between the Deqi response in the two groups to identify the influence of previous experience with needling.
