Abstract

Recent research confirms that the stratigraphic layers of the mid to upper Holocene of the Monte Castelo sambaqui (Shellmound - São Francisco do Guaporé - RO) have a high density of human burials, characterizing the site as an eminent funerary monument of the Southwestern Amazon during that period. Ongoing excavations have evidenced a representative set of these funerary structures and the production of isotopic data about them will allow mobility patterns to be investigated in relation to regional paloenvironments. This project proposes to carry out isotopic analyzes of strontium, focusing on mapping the signatures of dental enamels and other biological materials from Monte Castelo and beyond, comparing them with data from other sites, such as Hatahara, in the Central Amazon. In addition to studies on human mobility in the past, the data produced will be geoprocessed to form an archaeological isoscape of strontium bioavailability in the Southwestern Amazon. By the end of this project, the mapping of human mobility in the ancient Amazon will have been initiated and will be open to permanent updating. (AU)
