Abstract

This research aims to conduct a survey of the photography exhibitions that took place in the art museums and museum spaces of the city of São Paulo between the 1940s and 1980s. The objective is to produce a guide that brings together the exhibitions considered most significant for the legitimation process of photography as an artistic manifestation and/or part of these manifestations. We seek to expand the historical knowledge about the presence of photography in the art system in that period by surveying the public display of photography and the discourses that enabled its insertion in the art museums.
