Abstract

This project focuses on the detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs). These cells are released by primary and / or metastatic tumors through the bloodstream or the lymphatic system to form metastases. Therefore, direct detection of CTCs, known as liquid biopsy, can provide relevant information on the evolution of tumor during treatment and disease progression. Here we propose an alternative methodology for the detection of CTCs based on the construction of a microfluidic system for separation of CTCs by size exclusion, coupled with high selectivity of antibodies. Further optimization of the parameters will be measured by efficiency and specificity to capture breast cancer cell lines that will be used as a model. (AU)
