Abstract

Electrochemical systems for energy storage have had a fundamental role for mobile technology as well as for making renewable energy sources viable. However, with the increasing energy demand, the scientific community works on improving the consolidated technology, based on Li-ion intercalation, and on developing new technologies, such as Na-ion batteries. One possible approach is the use of positive materials having electrochemical activity in high potentials, which contributes to higher energy density. In this project, Mn-based layered materials, as oxides derived from LiMnO2 e NaMnO2, will be studied regarding their electrochemical activity involving the oxide anion in high potentials (>4.0 V vs Na/Na+). In order to do so, several physical-chemical and electrochemical characterization techniques will be used. Besides that, ionic liquids will be applied as electrolytes, once they are more stable than the conventional organic electrolytes, in order to guarantee the proper functioning of the cells in higher potentials.
