Abstract

This research project proposes the creation of a systematic analysis protocol for the different contributions in the ferroelectric hysteresis loops in magnetoelectric multiferroic systems by application of a magnetic field, thus allowing the understanding of the nature of the magnetoelectric coupling. The investigated materials to be analyzed are magnetoelectric multifunctional nanostructures based on the system Pb(Zr,Ti)O3/BaFe12O19, Pb(Zr,Ti)O3/CoFe2O4 and Pb(Zr,Ti)O3/NiFe2O4 manufactured by the physical deposition via RF-Sputtering technique, as well as PZT-PFN single-phase multiferroic systems. By using an already home-built ferroelectric data acquisition and analysis system coupled with a magnetic field platform, it will be possible to determine the different existing contributions in the ferroelectric hysteresis that are under major influence of the magnetic field; therefore, making it possible to differentiate the effects of magnetoelectric, magnetoresistive and/or magnetocapacitive nature in nanostructured and single-phase systems. In addition to that, by developing the related activities of this project, the student will have a major contribution to his academic and scientific formation, mainly in condensed matter physics and development of new materials.
