Abstract

Our research group has specialized in the development and study of non-cyanide baths for the electrodeposition of pure metals such as Zn, Ag, Cu, Pb, Ni, Sn among others, since cyanide baths are highly toxic and Watts baths contain many additives. Also, we have been concerned with the simplification of the baths for electrodeposition of metals with regard to the reduced number of additives present in them. These additives, in addition to stabilizing the ions in solution, also lead to the formation of electrodeposits with excellent qualities (free of dendrites, cracks, holes). The investigation of Ni electrodeposition baths is among the systems of interest to our research group, due to its properties as corrosion resistance, of great interest in industrial applications. Thus, in this project, it is intended to develop baths for deposition of Ni (pH = 5 and pH = 11) on steel substrate, in the presence of aspartic acid (HAsp) as a complexant, alternative to the conventional Watts acid bath. To characterize the complex Ni species present in the Ni deposition baths (pH = 5 and pH = 11) we will use the spectrophotometric technique in the visible region. The morphological characterization of Ni films obtained from these baths will be carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the structural characterization by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD).
