Abstract

Ethnobotany plays an important role within the gender issues as a necessary tool for the maintenance and transmission of rural women's traditional knowledge and, consequently in the conservation of biodiversity. This way, the research will study the case of the Cooperativa de Plantas Medicinais (Cooplantas), formed by 30 women that cultivate and process medicinal plants. The objective of this work is to identify and understand how the ethnobotanical practices and knowledge of rural women affects in the conservation of biodiversity. The applied methodology is based on participating observation and semi structured interviews. After the data collect, using the appropriated software, the data analysis will be constructed. Therefore, it is expected that the relationship between the ethnobotanical knowledge and practices of rural women participants of the Cooplantas and the conservation of biodiversity is identified in order to recognize and increase the role of rural women concerning these necessary matters.
