Abstract

Cocrystallization is an approach that aims to improve the physicochemical properties of drugs already on the market and of potential drugs. Cocrystals are formed when there are intermolecular interactions between the drug and coformer molecules involved in the synthesis, and the interactions formed do not interfere with the therapeutic activity of the drug. Hereby, this project aims the synthesis of pharmaceutical cocrystals of Norfloxacin (NOR) through the mechanochemical method using a ball mill. After synthesis, the evaluated systems will be characterized by thermoanalytical: thermogravimetry and simultaneous differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) and differential exploratory calorimetry (DSC), spectroscopic: vibrational absorption spectroscopy in the infrared (IR) and diffractometric techniques: diffractometry X-ray powder (DRXP), to confirm the formation of the cocrystals. From the obtained cocrystals, solubility studies will be carried out to evaluate the possible improvement in their solubility when compared to the drug alone.
