The Cerrado is a heterogeneous biome and has very complex and dynamic ecological relationships due to the incidence of the action of fire. The native plant species of this biome have a series of adaptations, mainly in its underground system, one of them known as xylopodium. The xylopodium is a lignified, thick structure, spherical, cylindrical or devoid of a definite shape and with a high number of buds, responsible for the regrowth of the plant, allowing it to survive after losing its aerial biomass by the action of fire. The objective of the study is to describe the formation of xylopodium in 8 species of legumes in the Cerrado at the ages of 4, 6, 9 and 12 months, from the perspective of understanding the origin and formation of this organ. The seedlings to be analyzed were germinated in the laboratory, grown in a greenhouse and are already fixed in FAA 70. Selected samples will be dehydrated, included in historesin and sectioned in a rotating microton for later slide assembly and staining, allowing morpho-anatomical analyzes to be performed. Histochemical tests will be carried out in order to check the presence of starch, lipid substances, phenolic compounds and pectic substances, in order to complement the anatomical analyzes. All material will be photographed under an optical microscope and described according to specialized literature, and the data obtained will be organized and analyzed for later publication in indexed journals.
