Abstract

This proposal aims to investigate the variation in volume, heat, and salt transport associated with the western boundary current system: Brazilian Current (CB) and Intermediate Current (CCI) over the southeast Brazilian continental margin between 20æS and 35æS, a wide region where the largest portion of the Brazilian population is found. Transport calculations will be carried out by strata of water bodies present in the region: Tropical Water (TW), South Atlantic Central Wa-ter, (SACW), Antarctic Intermediate Water (AAIA), and Upper Circumpolar Water (UCPW). The inference of the barotropic and baroclinic components of both currents will also be carried out, as well as the association and values of the velocity cores in terms of the variations occurring in TA and AAIA and their isopicnal interfaces, respectively. The work will be conducted from 36 years (1980-2016) of dated and assimilated global simulation of the OGCM For the Earth Simulator (OFES) model. Efforts to validate the simulation will be carried out by comparing it with synoptic data collected during IOUSP oceanographic cruises and current currents.
