Abstract

Forest restoration, as well as the maintenance of existing forest remnants, as a way of mitigatethe intensification of the greenhouse effect are important fields of study, specially when it comesto the knowledge of carbon stocks. These information contributes decisively to the creation ofconservation and management programs for forest remnants. Therefore, academic works aimedat quantifying carbon fixed in native and under restoration forests are very relevant, particularlybecause of the crescent demand of studies in these fields. Given the present context, this workaims to perform the floristic survey, estimate the biomass and carbon stocks in the arborealstratum of two restoration areas of 7 and 9 years old, with different historics of previous landusing, located in the Parque Estadual do Rio Turvo, Barra do Turvo - SP, and estabilish possible relationships between soil fertility parameters and carbon stocks. In each area, six plots of 4 x 25 m (100 m²) were demarcated, according to the methodology of The Atlantic Forest Restoration Pact. All planted and regenerating tree individuals with DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) e 2.5cm, at 1.30 m from the soil, will be inventoried, measuring DBH and height. The species will beorganized by families, successional group (pioneer and non pioneer) and dispersal syndrome(anemochoric, zoochoric and autochoric). As phytosociological descriptors, there will becalculated: number of individuals (N), density (D), relative density (DR), relative frequency(FR), dominance (Do), relative dominance (DoR), and importance values organized in an index(IVI). Using other descriptors will also determine: Shannon diversity index (H'); Simpson'sdominance index (D); and Jaccard similarity index (Sj). The abouve-ground living biomass ofeach tree individual, in kilograms, will be estimated in the sample units by the non destructive method, employing the alometric equation: Biomass = exp (-2,134 + 2,53 * ln DAP) and Biomass = 5,435 + 0,035 (Dq2*h). To estimate the carbon value in the shoot, the biomass values will be multiplied by the fator 0.5.
