Abstract

Self-efficacy beliefs can be defined as an individual's perceptions of his or her ability to act in certain situations, and are related to the judgment of own competences. Self-compassion, on the other hand, concerns feelings of care, understanding and kindness towards the self, and, based on that, respond to experiences of personal suffering and negative aspects of oneself. Both concepts are gaining more relevance in the academic environment due to several evidences regarding their effects on human functioning. Despite the fact that both self-compassion and self-efficacy have their theoretical bases consolidated, studies that talk about the association between these two concepts are still scarce and incipient. In the past decades, research evidences suggest that both constructs are related, however, given the preliminary and diversified nature of these publications, as well as the gap of research made in Portuguese, a bibliographic review on the subject is relevant. The objective of this study is to conduct a Integrative Review of Literature, to investigate how the literature addresses the relationship between self-efficacy and self-compassion. The established search strategy proposes a bibliographic survey of studies published in seven databases, based on the descriptors "self-efficacy", "self-compassion", "self-efficacy", "self-efficacy", "self-efficacy" and "self-compaction". As an expected result, it is proposed to put at the service of the scientific community a systematization and critical analysis about the subject, enabling future studies to situate themselves in face of the findings already published in the area, as well as interventions that can be thought based on these findings.
