Abstract

Adolescence is considered a phase in which profound physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes occur in a person's life. During this period, young people spend a great deal of time at school, a place of socialization, responsible for teaching behaviors and cultural values, in addition to influencing the formation of the adolescents' identity. It can be a space that promotes protection and care factors for its students, and the relationship between the teacher and their student plays a fundamental role in greater engagement and school performance by young people, lower risk of failure, personal development, satisfaction with the school environment, a sense of belonging, fewer amounts of absenteeism, suspensions and school dropouts. School performance, in educational terms, is the result of the learning produced in the student that was generated by the teacher's educational activities. The literature reports several characteristics of the teacher-student relationship that can influence students' school performance: perceptions of conflict/proximity, gender, ethnicity, beliefs of teacher self-efficacy, in addition to some tensions regarding which factors influence the most on performance, directly or indirectly. Considering the above, the aim of this research is to investigate the associations between the teacher-student relationship and the school performance of adolescent students. This will be done through an integrative systematic literature review of the literature. It is expected to compile, categorize and compare the studies found in order to understand how the teacher-student relationship influences or not the school performance of adolescents, and find gaps and suggestions for research and interventions in the field.(AU)
