Abstract Describing the dynamics of interacting many-particle systems is of great interest to both theoretical and experimental physicists for the development of quantum technologies. Particularly challenging are strongly correlated and out-of-equilibrium regimes, in which many interesting quantum phenomena manifest, and give rise to rich physics currently observed in experiments. Recently, pioneering analytical and numerical approaches combining concepts from Quantum Information Theory (QIT), Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Renormalization Group (RG) have shown promising results in the studyof such systems. Inspired by these advances, the goal of the present project is to integrate tools from QIT, DFT, and RG to study many-body problems. Our proposal is focused on two main lines. Line (i) aims to use the QIT concept of entanglement in order to improve DFT approximations for strongly correlated systems. Line (ii) focuses on the numerical RG solution of models for quantum devices with the purpose of using the RG calculations to design approximations for density functionals. We will explore problems in condensed matter that can directly benefit from the proposed approaches, including applications toquantum devices. We expect that the present project will contribute with significant theoretical and numerical advances and will help to better understand strongly correlated systems and their dynamics. (AU) | |
