Abstract

This project aims to obtain the support of FAPESP for a twelve months internship through the "Programa de Bolsa de Investigação e Estágio" (Bolsa Estágio de Pesquisa no Exterior - BEPE) in France - namely, at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS/Paris), under the supervision of Professor Mônica Raisa Schpun. During this period I intend to investigate and develop three specific issues: i) recover the debates on cultural democracy and cultural democratization that have permeated the French public space since the 1950s, updating it through a third way, that of cultural privatization, crucial for understanding the role of the researched collections - namely Fondation Louis Vuitton and Collection Pinault - and its managers for the art universe; ii) move forward with debates regarding the production of belief and the transformation processes of different types of capital, in the Bourdiesian sense, verifying their application to these collections; iii) from this set of debates, propose a theoretical review largely linked to the development of field research and empirical data collected during the internship abroad, in order to establish a more adjusted diagnosis of the relations of domination and subordination in the artistic field. Methodologically, the entry into the empirical field will be carried out on five distinct but complementary fronts, detailed in the material and methods section. The internship also possibility to participate in EHESS research groups under the coordination of Professor Mônica Schpun, scientific events and the elaboration of at least one academic article, partially presenting some results obtained.
