Effect of the violet LED on the chromatic change and dentin temperature variation

Abstract

It has been shown that the use of violet light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for emitting light of a wavelength coinciding with the absorption peak of the chromophoric molecules, can cause instability and break these pigments, resulting in the lightening effect, without the use of peroxide . The objective of this study will be to evaluate in vitro the action of the violet LED in the chromatic alteration and in the intrapulpal temperature of dentin discs pigmented by different substances: GI - naturally darkened teeth; GII- tea; GIII- coffee; GIV- wine and GV-blood. For this purpose, 150 teeth will be selected according to the initial color, receiving different pigmentation protocols. After pigmentation, 15 specimens from each group will be selected again, in such a way that the pigmentation intensity standardization occurs. The treatment with the Violet LED will be performed in just 1 session, with 3 applications of 20 minutes each and 10 minutes interval between them. The analyzes will be carried out in a UV reflection spectrophotometer, with ”E, ”L, ”a and ”b as response variables, as well as the bleaching index (WID). During the treatment, the samples will be connected to a K-type thermocouple, and the temperature variation will also be analyzed. The analysis times will be: T1-after pigmentation; T2- after exposure to the LED. After data collection, they will be subjected to appropriate statistical tests for each analysis (p <0.05).
