Abstract

The rise in demand for wireless data transmission services, the incorporation of IoT in 5G networks and the scarcity of spectrum in frequencies below 20GHz has been forcing the development of communication systems at millimetre wave bands. This research project proposes an electromagnetic study of a conic coaxial horn operating in millimetre waves between 25 and 40GHz, used as a feeder for omnidirectional dual-reflector antennas. The research addresses the optimization in three different parts of the device: the aperture and choke dimensions, the conic transition structure, and the cylindrical transition structure to a 2.92mm K connector with the purpose of stabilising the radiation pattern throughout the operation band and minimising the reflection coefficient (|S11|parameter).
