Abstract

This research intends to investigate in what way does the European Union-Turkey agreement on refugees challenges solid institutions such as the EU, particularly regarding its security perception. As such aspects promote internal and external transformations to the Union and given its influence in the International System, this study aims to contribute with an update of the role of security to the European integration project during the second decade of this century, taking into account the regional and systemic scenery. For that matter, this research proposes an approach combining Critical Security Studies (CSS) attached to semantic analysis of policy documents and the process of securitisation of migration and its effects in the EU territory during the period of 2016 to 2020.
