Abstract

Brazil is the second country in the world that most performs liver transplants. In Ribeirão Preto, the Hospital das Clínicas of the Ribeirão Preto Medical School of the University of São Paulo (HCFMRP-USP) has already performed more than 480 liver transplants in 20 years of the program. International data have already shown that immunosuppressive drugs, which are used throughout life by transplant patients, can increase the incidence of neoplasms and that the etiology of the liver disease that led to the transplant has an impact in the type of neoplasia developed and in the prognosis. That is well described for Alcoholic Liver Disease (ALD), however there is a lack of data about patients who were transplanted due to Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NASH). Considering the impact that specific neoplasm screening protocols for ALD transplant patients had on reducing late diagnosis and mortality in this population, data on de novo neoplasms in NASH transplant patients are essential. The aim of this project is to describe the epidemiology of de novo neoplasms in patients in the liver transplantation program at HCFMRP-USP and to compare the outcomes in patients transplanted by different etiologies, providing data for future prevention and adequate monitoring of this population.
