Abstract

Lithium ion batteries (LIBs) have been the subject of much research due to their great notoriety in various technological and economic sectors. Widely used in electronics, stationary sources of energy and telecommunications equipment, LIBs assume an essential and strategic role in electromobility and in the process of migration from fossil energy sources to renewable energies. The increase in demand observed and projected for LIBs and the scarcity of the metals that compose them, such as lithium (Li), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), aluminum (Al) flame the attention of sectors various productive sectors. In addition, the high potential for environmental impacts that LIBs cause throughout their life cycles require technologies for recycling this product. In this context, the discharge of residual energy from LIBs is a process of paramount importance for science and for the industrial scale of recycling LIBs. In this way, through experiments controlled by Design of Experiments (DoE), this research aims to develop a system for the electrochemical discharge of LIBs residual energy in an economically viable, laborally safe and environmentally responsible way.
