Abstract

The objective is to evaluate different multiplanar blocks of interlocking nails, with and without a stable angle, compared to the parallel blocking system, by means of biomechanical tests of axial compression. For this purpose, prototyped specimens with critical failure simulating diaphyseal comminution will be used. The nails will be 175 mm long and 8 mm in diameter, divided into four groups (seven units each). The G1 will consist of intramedullary nails with two holes in the proximal segment and two in the distal segment, all threaded, to promote the block of the screws with the nail (stable angle) and with the cortical of bone models; in this group, the implant holes will be arranged in the same plane. In G2 it will include the same locking system as G1, but with a multiplanar arrangement of locking holes. In G3, the locking system will use specific bolts made for coupling in the holes of the intramedullary nail without threading (without a stable angle), with a solid and smooth body, and a proximal end with threads for interaction with the specimen's cortical cis. In this group, the nail locking holes will be arranged in a parallel manner. In group 4 (G4), the locking mechanism will be the same as in G3, but with the arrangement of the holes in a multiplanar manner. The axial compression tests will be performed by a specific testing machine connected to a computer system for data acquisition. The data will be evaluated among the four groups (G1, G2, G3, and G4), resulting in seven repetitions for each combination. The means will be compared with Student's t-test with a 5% significance level. (AU)
