Abstract

This project is circumscribed by the field of studies on the form and the operation of natural languages and focuses specifically on the subarea that comprises grammars of indigenous languages. Its technical and theoretical objectives are the elaboration of an annotated Yaathe corpus and the analysis of its Case System, respectively. The former will be based on the extension of Tycho Brahe proposed to Kadiwéu (GALVES et al, 2017). The latter is concerned with the understanding of the mechanisms involved in checking abstract cases, under the generative theory, and must verify what is the best analysis based on the confrontation between classic approaches (BITTNER; HALE, 1996, WOOLFORD, 2006) and formal generative typology (FGT) (BAKER, 2010, 2015), through tests. We want to examine if Yaathe is an ergative-absolutive language, as concluded in previous work (COSTA, 1999) and if so, to find out if ergative is a structural or inherent case in that language, in addition to testing hypotheses as to what parameters explain your system. For the technical objective, the methodology will be the elaboration of an annotation manual and respective annotation, in two levels (words and morphemes), of the sentences and narratives spoken in Yaathe (COSTA,1999), with the online tool eDictor (Thematic Projects FAPESP 2014 / 50501-9 and 2012 / 17869-7). For the analysis, the elicitation of new sentences (such as possible raising structures or structures with exceptional case marking (ECM), anti-passives, causatives and relative clauses), keeping in mind the tests that suggest the aforementioned literature, done in a video call to a native speaker.
