Abstract

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are studied as a mean of alternative therapy for several pathologies, because through paracrine effects of cytokines and secreted growth factors, they acquire mechanisms of therapeutic action. However, as the loss of MSCs is considerable in the transplanted area, it is necessary to use tools and different means to face this problem. Among these tools, the use of light sources, such as the light-emitting diode (LED), is a promising mean to seek increased cytokine proliferation, adhesion, survival and secretion, with the aim of improving the quality of treatment. Based on studies that show a temporary effect by the LED on cells, the purpose of this study is to irradiate MSCs with LED and analyze the duration of its effect, in order to find the best post-irradiation period for the use of the cells.
