Influence of hepatic fibrosis on the severity of apical periodontitis: analysis of the CD68 marker in Wistar rats

Abstract

The interrelationship between systemic changes with the development and progression of oral infections such as apical periodontitis has been the object of intense studies in recent years, especially by our research group. Objective: The objective of this study will be evaluate the effect of Liver Fibrosis (LF) on the severity of Apical Periodontitis (AP) an animal model. Methods: Will be used forty Wistar rats divided into 4 groups (n = 10): Group C - control rats; Group AP - mice bearing AP; Group LF - mice bearing LF; AP+LF group - rats bearing AP and LF. LF will be induced chemically and surgically. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) will be given at a dosage of 0.2 ml / 100 g body weight, twice weekly, intraperitoneally, and throughout the experiment (60 days). After 30 days of drug administration, the bile duct ligation surgical procedure will be performed. Then, AP will be induced by means of pulp exposure of the first and second lower right molars. After another 30 days the rats will be euthanized, the mandibles and livers will be collected for light microscopy analysis. The mandibles will be processed for histological analysis in Hematoxylin and Eosin (H.E.) staining and immunohistochemistry for CD68, and livers for histological analysis in H.E. and Picrosirius red (PSR). Analysis of results: The results will be analyzed and compared by statistical tests with a significance level of 5% (p <0.05). (AU)
