Abstract

The study aims to analyze the occurrence of fires in Vale do Paraíba Paulista and its possible relationship with observed regional climate conditions. For this purpose, data of fires foci for years after 1998, made available by INPE and CGLS (since 2014), and data of precipitation (CHIRPS) and temperature (CRU), for the period 1981-2010 will be considered. Climatological anomalies and drought rates will be contrasted with fire data through the development of mathematical models, allowing the verification of the hypothesis that fire occurrence and size is more frequent and is higher in hotter and drier years, respectively. In this way, it will be possible to broaden the understanding about incidence of fire events, which can assume a harmful character to the local vegetation and population health.
