Abstract

Agriculture is one of the sectors of the Brazilian economy that grows the most, and consequently, the amount of waste from this activity also increases, which are found in greater concentration in pig confinement systems. Considering the great environmental impact generated by this type of organic matter, the biogas production process is an alternative for the treatment of this waste, in addition to offering a renewable source of energy. This biofuel is composed, for the most part, of methane, the concentration of which may vary according to the operating conditions of the digester. There are several studies regarding this production, which vary in type of anaerobic digestion system, hydraulic retention time, physical-chemical parameters, and other aspects that influence the production of biogas. Despite a large amount of information from scientific production related to the topic, analyzing its results individually may not be conclusive. Thus, this work seeks to gather scientific studies on anaerobic digestion of swine manure from the beginning of research by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) in Brazil to the present day (1981 to 2020), the results of which will be evaluated by a statistical technique called Meta-Analysis, which will make it possible to know the variability between studies and their contributions to given scientific evidence in addition to refining hypotheses and identifying focuses of future research, through the regrouping of experimental studies.
