Abstract

Somatic mutations in genes responsible for epigenetic modulation appear to occur years before the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Bearing in mind that individuals with idiopathic neutropenias can develop AML, the present study aims to verify whether asymptomatic individuals with idiopathic cytopenias have clonal hematopoiesis. For this study, patients with idiopathic neutropenia will be recruited for the diagnosis of clonal hematopoiesis by high-performance DNA sequencing, with subsequent monitoring of possible changes in blood count and clonal architecture. Data from studies may provide a basis for prevention strategies in populations at high risk of developing AML.
