Abstract

The neotropical deer from Mazama genus have cytogenetic peculiarities such as B chromosomes. The species Mazama gouazoubira (2n = 70 + 0-3B) stands out for its high polymorphism associated with the B chromosome occurrence. Supernumerary chromosome studies with this species are scarce regarding the function and origin of Bs. Thus, the present study aims to classify the different types of B chromosomes from Mazama gouazoubira by the production of specific chromosomes probes. Thus, females from different locations carrying from 0 to 1 B were select to produce specific B probes. Each probe will be tested on the female used for the probe production, on the other four females selected, and in 10 individuals from different populations with variable numbers of Bs. The Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH) will allow observing the results of hybridization signal in the metaphases of different individuals. Therefore, it will be possible to deduce if there are differences between B chromosomes content; besides verifying the accumulation of one or different Bs in M. gouazoubira individuals from different locations.
