Abstract

Transport studies based on big data have been gaining relevance, as well as the use of the concept of accessibility to assess equity issues, however, to the best of our knowledge, these two fronts are not yet related in the literature. This study seeks to integrate them, using phone data, combined with the traditional household origin-destination survey data, to propose a space-time accessibility measure based on the patterns identified with big data, taking advantage of the wide share of the population that is represented with this new data. The space-time measures are pointed out as more accurate in the assessment of equity in transport since they reveal differences in interpersonal time budgets, but research on this field is constrained by the need for a diary of the users' activities, which may be obtained from the traditional methods but just for a small portion of the population. This project intends to tackle this problem by proposing new methods to capture urban transport inequalities and related spatial inequity based on big data. (AU)
