Abstract

Paleomagnetic data from carbonate rocks is applied in global paleogeographic reconstructions. Although studied from different perspectives, the phenomena responsible for the growth of magnetic particles and chemical remanent acquisition/remagnetization is not fully understood. This work has as innovation to study the growth of secondary magnetic crystals in carbonate rocks of the Neoproterozoic and the distinct magnetic properties of its particles according to its generating mechanism - through a) mineralochemical characterization; b) magnetic characterization; c) sequential extraction experimentation; d) nanometric imaging by synchrotron light emitted by a particle accelerator; and e) micromagnetic modeling of the obtained three-dimensional models. By linking chemical magnetization to the formation of these minerals, it may become possible to date (indirectly), the migration of basinal fluids and the burial of sediments. This project is linked to the thematic project FAPESP 2016/06114-6. (AU)
