Abstract

The increasing demand for consumer goods and industrialized products, such as personal care products, food and pharmaceuticals, has led to an accumulation of chemical compounds in the environment and exposing man to emerging contaminants, among which are the Endocrine Disruptores (ED). Therefore, issues related to environmental contamination and human exposure to this class of contaminants have become one of the main points of discussion among scientific communities and regulatory agencies around the world. The execution of studies related to biomonitoring of human exposure to DEs is extremely important, since some of these may be associated with several health problems, including Cancer, Diabetes and Endometriosis. Although several countries are already continuously developing biomonitoring studies of their populations, in Brazil these studies are still limited and little is known about the levels of exposure to endocrine disruptors. In this sense, the present proposal aims to determine urinary biomarkers to assess exposure to EDs in children and pregnant women living in the Country and their possible associations with oxidative stress biomarkers through the development and application of simple and rapid analytical methods.
