Abstract

The preocuppation has been recently about the effects caused by preservatives in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food, once in contact with the aquatic environment cause damage to aquatic biota. Studies relating exposure to parabens in humans and mice are abundant in the literature since they have the characteristic of being carcinogenic and endocrine disruptors. However, there are few studies with fish in relation to oxidative stress generated by exposure to these compounds. Thus, this project have to intended to analyze biochemical responses in antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase and non-enzymatic antioxidant systems as levels of lipid peroxidation and reduced glutathione in liver and gills of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) also to develop analytical methods and apply them to determine the different parabens in samples of liver, gills and muscle by means of chromatographic analysis evaluating the parameters of specificity / selectivity, linearity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), accuracy , precision (repeatability and reproducibility) and robustness. The fish will be exposed for 6 and 12 days to methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben and benzylparaben in the concentration of LC25. After, a new experiment will be to do in which the concentrations LC25 are injected intraperitoneally and after 6 and 12 days the animals are anesthetized and sacrificed for removal of tissues. Toxicity tests are also realized to obtain the values of LC50. Thus, intend to evaluate the possible effects these parabens may have in tilapias and implications of these results in environmental biomonitoring studies with animals collected in the field. (AU)
