Abstract This scientific initiation aims to investigate methodological and analytical challenges and possibilities in the construction of quantitative studies that seek to evaluate the relationship between the index of walkability (a measure of quality of life in the urban environment, well-being and mobility) and criminal rates (in the specific natures of homicides, robberies and thefts), for the city of São Paulo and in a spatial-temporal perspective. To do so, it will start with the geocoding of police reports of different criminal typologies in the attempt to find influences on walkability indifferent territorial units - such as census sectors, weighting areas, Human Development Units (UDH)or buffers of interest. This investigation will make it possible to test the adequacy of criminal data for interdisciplinary quality of life researches, verifying if they are suitable for possible correlations with walkability. | |
