Abstract Software startups pursue to apply strategies which can support the creation of innovative products and that, at the same time, provide a more meaningful user experience and aid the organizations to achieve a sustainable business model as quickly as possible. However, startups face difficulties in how to adapt or incorporate UX practices to their software processes, either due to the software team's lack of knowledge on these practices or because they are costly practices. This project aims to develop a lean framework to empower professionals who work in software startups in the conduction of longitudinal UX research and in the articulation of UX Research in these environments. To achieve this project goal, we will apply the Grounded Theory as the central methodology. It will guide the qualitative analysis of the data collected from the literature and field studies in software startups. Our methodology will follow the essence of Ground Theory by applying successive and incremental comparisons in order to identify concepts and patterns from the data gathered. In the end, a theory will emerge from the data which will be the basis of the framework. The field studies will focus on observing the daily work in different software startups, as well as the UX Research practices they applied and what data they handle from these activities. An evaluation of the framework will be performed by software professionals who work in software startups and the results will support the refining of the framework. We intend the framework can help software startups to decide which types of data about the user experience they should consider when creating their products while facilitating the integration of longitudinal research into software development processes.
