Studies have shown that Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is underdiagnosed and is associated with chronic diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases. OSAS is a risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD) and consequently for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). OSAS consists of a triggering factor for arrhythmias and systemic arterial hypertension (SAH), mainly in cases that manifest and/or intensify during sleep. The incidence of OSAS in patients with cardiovascular pathologies is not completely known, especially in the Brazilian population. Objective: this research aims to evaluate the incidence of OSAS in patients with CAD, arrhythmias, and hypertension. Method: The study will have three different arms: 1) Incidence of OSAS in patients with CAD, 2) Incidence of OSAS in patients with cardiac arrhythmias, 3) Incidence of OSAS in patients with SAH, without physiological nocturnal blood pressure dipping. Patients will be selected at the cardiology outpatient clinic of the State Hospital of Bauru. For the OSAS assessment, patients will be submitted to the Berlin, STOP-Bang, and Epworth questionnaires. Additionally, type IV polysomnography will be performed at home basis. Expected results: the study hypothesis is that the incidence of OSAS in patients with cardiovascular diseases is greater than in the general population. (AU)
