Abstract

This project, as part of my research agenda started with my PhD studies aims to analyze the emergence processes of Brazil as an autonomous political body and its structuring as a national state in the first half of the 19th century. My objective is to investigate the connections and mutual relations between the captaincies/provinces of Bahia, Cisplatina, Grão-Pará, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Sul, between 1817 and 1850, through the movements of political contestation and civil war that occurred in these places. I present the hypothesis that when they got closer due to the insurgency movements, groups that were politically active in these places shared experiences and learnings, helped to create a shared space and a common language that provided elements for the construction of the State and the Nation in Brazil. Therefore, I consider not only the varied forms and intensities of possible interactions, but, mostly, how these events and processes that took place in different spaces and times came across each other concretely, were modified and, in this way, helped to create, from the diversity, a specific historical experience, an insurgent experience. To this end, I will make use of a wide range of sources such as the press, official and private correspondence, official faith and legal proceedings. As a result of these efforts, the reports to be produced will support the making of two scientific articles and a book to be published at the end of this investigation. (AU)
