Abstract

Running is effective in increasing levels of physical activity and promotes several health benefits. However, the implementation of running as physical activity is not free of side negative effects. Running-related injuries (RRIs) are the side effect that poses the greatest risk to the general population. Effective interventions in preventing RRIs are scarce and there is no information on facilitators and barriers in the implementation of such interventions in the literature. Thus, it is not possible to create strategies to make the most of facilitators, and/or avoid or overcome barriers related to the implementation of RRIs prevention programs. The purpose of this study will be to identify and describe the facilitators and barriers encountered in the process of implementing a running-related injury prevention program. The population of this study will be composed of a random sample of 50 runners previously involved in a randomized controlled trial (step 2 of the general research project) and who received the prevention program for a year. A semi-structured interview will be conducted and recorded to collect information about facilitators and barriers related to the implementation of the running-related injury prevention program. The interview will be conducted until it reaches saturation of the subject. Qualitative data from the interview transcripts will be grouped into categories, and these will be analyzed descriptively. The analysis and dissemination of facilitators and barriers of prevention programs are extremely important for future attempts at implementing future programs may consider such factors, optimizing thus implementing these programs and increasing the likelihood that they will be effective in "real life".
