Abstract

The extraction procedure is recurrent in dental practice and this can be caused by several factors directly affecting the patient's quality of life. Oral rehabilitation after tooth loss can be performed with conventional prostheses and prostheses on osseointegrated implants, being the second most advantageous option for better aesthetics, functionality and longevity. For the installation of dental implants it is essential that there is considerable quantity and quality of bone, however the various changes that occur in the alveolar process after tooth extraction can make the procedure unfeasible. Guided bone regeneration consists of using grafts and / or membranes to guide bone regeneration. The function of the membrane is to guide the growth of the epithelium over the newly formed bone. This study aims to evaluate the role of the Plenum Guide® membrane in the preservation of bone tissue in dental alveoli after the extraction procedure. For this purpose, three groups of volunteers who need extraction of the posterior elements will be observed, being separated into: a group with 13 dental alveoli that will not receive any material, a group with 13 dental alveoli that will receive the Plenum Guide® membrane exposed in the region intraoral and a last group with also 13 dental alveoli that will receive the Plenum Guide® membrane covered by mucosa of the oral cavity.
