Abstract

This project aims to study the novel La grève des bàttu (1979), by the Senegalese writer Aminata Sow Fall, focusing on the analysis of the topic of begging in the work and on the investigation of how it relates to the Senegalese socio-political, cultural and linguistic context. To carry out this study, we will first seek to understand the specificities of the narrative genre in which it is inscribed - the novel -, studying the narrative focus, the action, the characters and, finally, the time and the physical space, social and psychological space in this work (cf. ABDALLA JUNIOR, 1995; CANDIDO et Al., 2009; REUTERS, 2002). Subsequently, we will analyze the topic of begging by linking it to the historical, socio-political and cultural context (CHEHAMI, 2013; FALL, 2005; ONIEMELUKWE, 1998; ONIEMELUKWE, 2003 and OYOUROU 2009). Likewise, it will be necessary to know the role of traditional and/ or mythical figures in Senegalese society (CHEHAMI, 2013; MARTY, 1917; MOTA, 2016; MOREAU, 1964; PANAIT, 2017 and SCHMITZ, 1983), as well as to know the traces of colonialism in political organization in the independent Senegalese society (BOAHEN, 2010; DAGENAIS, 2005; MAZRUI, 2010). It will also be our responsibility to delve deeper into studies on the term francophone literature, the French language in Senegal and the presence of Wolof in Fall's novel (COMBE, 2010; CISSE, 2005; FEUTREL, 2019; MOURA, 2019 and NDIAYE 2004).
